Hey Fellows

What comes to your mind when you hear the word 'Paya or Paaye'??

Yes, is a traditional food from South Asia. Paya means mutton or beef legs /feet in Urdu. Mutton legs and hooves cooked with special spices. Here in Pakistan Paya is a traditional breakfast. Lahore is really famous for their special Paya.

The Picture Says It All
Being a Pakistani I believe there's no need to pen down the recipe of this all-time favorite dish which lives in our hearts. Each and every household have its own recipe and own touch. There are so many masalas and recipes available every here and there that my recipe will not do any justice to this.

You know what?
Being a Dawoodi Bohra, the image that pops up in our minds when we hear the word paya is different. What we say to our paya is PAYA-ROTI. Yes! we Dawoodi Bohra own a different style of having paya.
Recipe is almost the same but what we do is that in a big bowl we tear tandoori roti into small pieces and then add paya soup or gravy and the meat. Mix them well. Then we add some garnishes in which slices of boiled eggs and juvenile cut ginger is must. Coriander and green chillis for the tempting final touch. Yum! my mouth is watering while I'm writing about paya-roti here. Having paya thiis way is a treat trust me.
So next time when you are planning to cook or eat or to cook and eat paya just try to have it this way and I swear You'll love every bit of it. May Allah continue to fill our dastarkhans with blessings. Ameen.
